Tangi Ukulele (a.k.a. Tangi Ukuleles) was started in 1993 by Tangi Tully with the help of his father James (Jim)Tully.  Jim, who had been retired from State Department work in South East Asia, was spending a lot of time in Vietnam and Thailand.  Having the knowledge that the US embargo against Vietnam would soon be lifted, Jim thought it would be a good idea to set up a facility there to take advantage of premium hardwoods and other quality resources.  The rest is history.  The small Tangi Ukuleles facility in Vietnam was a perfect compliment to the grass roots type of operation Tangi had started in Waikiki (of all places).  The Vietnam facility grew as did the Honolulu facility.  Jim hired some of the finest luthiers in Vietnam to produce handcrafted ukuleles starting with the specifications and designs of Tangi and himself only to have them eventually improve the designs dramatically.  These improvements carried over to the Hionolulu facility and many of their inovations are still being used today.  The Vietnam facility was closed a few years back and Jim Tully passed away in March  2009.  Tangi Ukulele, like many other businesses, has been adversly affected by the economic recession and has dramatically downsized and relocated to it's present loaction in a small shop near Times Super Market on S. Beretania Street.  Tangi Ukulele is now a one man operation and Tangi continues to offer quality ukuleles at an affordable price.

Tangi Tully was born and raised in Hawaii.  He comes from a very musical family in Tahiti where his mother was born.  Growing up with music , it is only natural that he would take his love of music and convert it into a business or more acurately, a "labor of love".  Making fine musical instruments has become his passion.

Tangi also continues to entertain in Waikiki as well as overseas in Japan, the Mainland, and whereever else his music takes him.  You can catch him doing "Oldies", variety, and cover tunes (sing along type) at the Princess Kaiulani Hotel in Waikiki on Mondays and Wednesday evenings from 9:30 to 11:30 PM.
